Captivated returns to Docks Academy on Saturday 20 February 2027 for The Winter Session, bringing eight hours of trance back to Grimsby with a line-up that mixes established producers, some of the strongest names coming through the UK scene and plenty of familiar Captivated faces.

Heading things up is Daniel Skyver.

If you've followed trance for any length of time, his name probably won't need much introduction. The Portsmouth producer has built a considerable catalogue across labels including Future Sound of Egypt and Subculture, with appearances at events including Luminosity Beach Festival and support from some of the biggest DJs in the genre.

Alongside him is Grant Trowbridge, whose productions have become increasingly difficult to miss over the last few years. Grant's sound owes plenty to the tougher, more driving side of early 2000s trance, with releases on Borderline, Pure Trance and Rated and music that has found its way into sets at Luminosity and Transmission. If names like Activa, John Askew and the old Discover sound mean anything to you, you'll understand where he's coming from.

Motion's Danny Minns also joins the Winter Session line-up, alongside Resolve and Perky, before things move firmly into Captivated territory with Blacklisted, Dave Barnett, Guy Johnson, Robert Curtis and Joe Swales.

There's quite a bit of range in that second half of the bill too.

Lincolnshire duo Blacklisted have built their name around fast, energetic trance and tech. Cleethorpes producer Robert Curtis brings a noticeably harder edge, moving between tech trance, hard trance and psy-influenced material, while Hull's Joe Swales is comfortable travelling between trance and techno rather than sticking rigidly to one particular corner of the genre.

That's probably the thing Captivated has got right with these events. It isn't just about dropping a couple of bigger names at the top of a poster. The residents and local DJs are part of the event rather than filler between the guests, and the musical progression across the day is given room to breathe.

The venue suits that approach as well.

Docks Academy is an intimate grassroots music venue housed above Docks Beers in the former Church on King Edward Street. At around 300 capacity, it is small enough to retain the atmosphere of a proper trance gathering rather than feeling like everybody is scattered around a huge room.

Captivated has already established a relationship with the venue through previous sessions, including its Summer Session in August 2026, and The Winter Session brings them back for another full afternoon and evening inside Docks.

From melodic and uplifting trance through to the faster, tougher end of the spectrum, this one has been put together as a journey rather than eight hours of everybody trying to play the same peak-time set.
